GLITTERING GENERALITY |
Glittering generalities is the emotional appeal to highly valued concepts and beliefs, which does not have any supporting evidence or reason. In the banner advertising Coca Cola, the audience is only presented with a phrase that reads, "things go better with coke" and "drink Coca Cola". What the Coca Cola company is trying to say is that their drink is so good that no matter what, a sip of Coca Cola can relieve any situation, no matter what. Indeed for some people, drinking coke might temporarily help relieve their stress because it's considered refreshing by many. However, it's obvious that a mere sip of soft drink won't make anything better for people who are going through serious problems or issues. The phrase is nothing more than a propaganda that the Coca Cola company is trying to use in order to appeal to the audiences' emotions.
