FEARMany propagandists use fear to appeal to people, because it warns people that if people don’t act, then that will result in a danger. This poster’s goal is to prevent people from unhealthy eating as much as possible by creating fear in people’s minds. Most -- if not all -- people in the world know that smoking cigarettes has countless detrimental health effects to the body. Cigarettes are the major single cause of cancer mortality in the United States, and they are for many other countries as well. On the poster however, there is a cigarette box filled with french fries instead of cigarettes, and a phrase that says, “Unhealthy eating KILLS more people each year than cigarettes”. It points out how much people underestimate the effects of unhealthy eating, because the average person would certainly say that smoking is worse for one’s health than eating unhealthy. Also, above the phrase, the huge bolded word “fact” says that the phrase isn’t just an expression, but rather it is a hard, serious truth. Through the words and images, the poster engrains fear into people’s minds.
